Caring for a white leather bag
1 minute read
A white bag shows everything, but it is rarely as fragile as it looks. Most of the work is prevention, plus light cleaning done often.
Everyday habits
- Wipe the bag with a dry, soft cloth after each outing.
- Keep it away from dark denim, which transfers dye, especially when new.
- Store it in a cotton dust bag, never in plastic.
Gentle cleaning
Clean as you would any smooth leather: a little cleanser on a white cloth, small light circles, then a dry cloth. Little and often works better than a hard scrub once a season.
What never to use
Bleach, magic erasers and whitening toothpaste. They remove the finish as well as the mark, leaving a patch that looks worse than the original stain.
When to stop
Denim transfer that has set, yellowing and ink marks are best left to a specialist, who can recolour if needed.
Always test any technique on a hidden area first. If a bag is valuable, delicate or already damaged, take it to a professional.
